Core Ontological Distinctions

Land vs. Capital

Land is an unproduced, spatially fixed biophysical gift with zero cost of creation and inelastic macroeconomic supply. Capital is human-made, reproducible, mobile, and depreciable.

Physical Supply vs. Economic Supply of Land

Physical supply (Total Geographical Area) is strictly fixed ($E_s = 0$). Economic supply (land available for a specific use like wheat or housing) is upward-sloping via land conversion and opportunity cost.

Ricardian Fertility Rent vs. Von Thünen Location Rent

Ricardian rent arises from differences in intrinsic soil quality/fertility. Von Thünen rent arises from differences in spatial distance and transport cost to the central market.

The Land Resource Equation

How physical earth becomes an economic engine.

FIXED LITHOSPHERIC SPACE (TGA)
↓ Relief + Climate Filter
ARABLE & USABLE SUPPLY
↓ Soil + Moisture + Location
DIFFERENTIAL LAND QUALITY
↓ Labour + Capital Application
ECONOMIC RENT & PRODUCTION
