The Multi-Task Gate

SSC MTS & HAVALDAR / THE OPERATIONAL FLOOR OF THE UNION
SSCMATRICULATION LEVELGROUP CNON-TECHNICALCENTRAL GOVERNMENT
The smallest task can belong to the largest institution.
SSC MTS is a major matriculation-level route into the operational support machinery of Central Government offices; the same examination also recruits Havaldars in CBIC and CBN.
What is SSC MTS?
THE ENTRY-LEVEL GATEWAY

Who conducts it?
The Staff Selection Commission (SSC).
What qualification is required?
Matriculation (10th Class) from a recognized Board.
Is it a permanent job?
Yes. It is a permanent Central Government Group 'C' post.

MTS
The Office Floor
Non-technical support work within Central Government offices, ministries, and departments.
HAVALDAR
The Enforcement Floor
Recruitment under the same examination for CBIC and CBN, with a physical stage (PET/PST) in addition to the computer-based examination.
What does "Multi-Tasking" actually mean?
The MTS Desk
MTS duties are defined by the user department and office, and can vary considerably. Possible work areas may include:
Office support Files and records Movement of documents Physical record maintenance Photocopying / Routine tasks Dispatch Cleanliness / Upkeep as assigned Supporting sections & officers Carrying files/material
Routine non-technical duties assigned by the office. Do not assume a universal job description.
The Government You Don't See
THE INVISIBLE INFRASTRUCTURE
A ministry may need files moved, records maintained, documents delivered, rooms prepared, physical materials handled, routine office support provided, and sections kept operational.
When these tasks stop, the visible machinery above them slows down.
Where can the MTS gate open?

CBIC AND CBN RECRUITMENT
Under the current recruitment framework, the Havaldar route includes a Computer-Based Examination, followed by a Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST), with applicable medical and document processes.
ONE EXAMINATION CAN LEAD TO TWO DIFFERENT SELECTION ROADS.
* The official notice explicitly states that candidates who fail PET/PST are not considered for Havaldar, even though their CBE candidature can remain valid for MTS based on merit.

Session-II is decisive for MTS merit under the current scheme. Havaldar candidates are shortlisted for PET/PST based on Session-II performance.

The Normalization Room
Why can two candidates with different raw scores not be directly compared?
Because the examination is conducted across multiple shifts with varying difficulty levels, SSC uses a published statistical formula to equalize scores. The official notification states that normalized scores are used to determine merit.

THE MULTI-TASK GATE
The operational floor of the Union.

Not every contribution to government appears on a podium. Some appear as a file delivered, a record maintained, a room prepared, a document found, a task completed.
