Beyond Output: The Multidimensional Measurement Matrix
How do we scientifically quantify whether an economy is truly developing? While gross output captures size, comprehensive developmental measurement requires a multi-tiered dashboard. Realm 26 maps this diagnostic system across seven syllabus pillars: nominal **Per-Capita Income**, constant **Real Per-Capita Income & PPP**, the multi-dimensional **Human Development Index (HDI)**, consumption and multi-dimensional **Poverty**, **Literacy & Education**, **Life Expectancy & Health**, and the structure of **Employment**.

Core Developmental Metric Distinctions
Nominal PCI is calculated at current market prices and exchange rates (reflects current dollar size, $\approx \$2,600$). Real PCI is deflated to a constant base year (2011–12) to measure physical volume growth over time. PPP PCI converts income based on purchasing power parity ($\approx \$10,000+$), adjusting for the fact that goods and services are significantly cheaper in developing nations.
Human Development Index (HDI) vs. Physical Quality of Life Index (PQLI)Morris D. Morris's PQLI (1979) used three purely physical social indicators: (1) Infant Mortality, (2) Life Expectancy at Age 1, and (3) Basic Literacy—deliberately excluding income. The UNDP's HDI (1990) includes GNI per capita (PPP) as a logarithmically transformed proxy for a decent standard of living alongside education and longevity.
Usual Status (PS+SS) vs. Current Weekly Status (CWS) in PLFSUsual Status (Principal + Subsidiary) classifies a person based on their activity over the preceding 365 days (captures chronic/long-term employment). Current Weekly Status (CWS) measures activity over the previous 7 days (a person is employed if they worked for at least 1 hour on any day during the week), capturing intermittent seasonal fluctuations.
