The Epistemology of Deep Earth
Earth has a radius of 6,370 km. No human instrument has penetrated beyond 12 km (0.2%). Our knowledge of the deep interior is constructed by coupling limited direct samples (mining, boreholes, volcanic xenoliths) with indirect geophysical evidence (thermal gradients, density paradox, meteorites, gravity anomalies, and seismic wave behavior).

Core Distinctions
Direct Sources: Surface rocks, mine excavations ($\sim 3.9\text{ km}$), boreholes ($\le 12.26\text{ km}$), and volcanic ejecta/xenoliths. Indirect Sources: Temperature, pressure, and density gradients; meteorites; gravitational anomalies; magnetic surveys; and seismic wave profiling.
2. Why Meteorites Reveal Earth's CoreMeteorites formed from the same solar nebula at the same time as Earth. Their differentiated fragments (metallic iron-nickel meteorites) directly prove that rocky planets concentrate heavy metals into their cores.
3. Why Magnetism Must Be Dynamic (Geodynamo)Permanent ferromagnetism disappears above the Curie Point ($\sim 580^\circ\text{C}$). Earth's interior exceeds thousands of degrees, proving magnetism cannot come from static permanent magnets—it must be generated by fluid convection in the molten outer core.
