JEST as a Research Eligibility Signal
ANRF recognizes JEST as a National Eligibility Test (NET). This provides eligibility for appropriate fellowships under certain SERB/ANRF programmes.
Recognition as a NET does not mean every JEST-qualified candidate automatically receives a fellowship. Funding depends on the admitting institute and scheme rules.

JEST is specifically tailored for the physics/TCS research institute ecosystem. GATE serves a broader technical/science postgraduate and PSU ecosystem.
JEST vs JAM
JAM is primarily a postgraduate admissions ecosystem (M.Sc). JEST is more explicitly connected to research institute screening and doctoral programmes.
