The Medical Gate
NEET PG · INI-CET / THE GATE TO SPECIALISATION
The MBBS is not the end of medical education.
It is the threshold to specialization. This archive maps the entire post-MBBS competition architecture, from the national counselling ecosystem to the elite Institutes of National Importance.

NEET PG
THE NATIONAL GATE
Conducted by NBEMS. The principal national entrance mechanism for MD/MS/PG Diploma admissions across India. State and private medical colleges do not conduct separate entrance exams for these covered seats.

NEET PG ≠ "All PG Medical Admissions"
NEET PG governs the national framework. INI-CET governs specialized institutes. The DNB operates its own National Board ecosystem. Super-speciality (NEET-SS) is a later medical threshold entirely.
MD vs MS
MD
Broad family of non-surgical medical, diagnostic, and para-clinical specialties.
Which specialties are most competitive?
MS
Surgical specialties focused on operative interventions and specialized procedures.

DIPLOMATE OF NATIONAL BOARD (DNB)
Do not treat DNB as merely "another PG diploma." It is its own postgraduate medical training ecosystem emphasizing hospital-based, clinical training alongside academic rigorousness.

Institutional Preference
All INI seats are not governed by identical rules. AIIMS, for example, maintains institutional preference for its own graduates, along with specific rules for sponsored and foreign candidates. Institute → Speciality → Category → Institutional Preference → Eligibility.
The Exam Ends. The Seat War Begins.
HOW DOES PG MEDICAL COUNSELLING WORK?
MCC Counselling
Entrusted with online counselling for 50% All India Quota (AIQ) postgraduate seats, Deemed/Central universities, and specific institutional categories.
State Counselling
The remaining 50% state quota seats and private medical college seats are governed by individual state counselling authorities and domicile rules.
NEET PG Cutoff ≠ MD/MS Seat Cutoff
Qualifying Cutoff
The examination threshold required just to enter the counselling pool.
Closing Rank
The final competitive position at which a particular seat was allotted in a specific round.
Specialty Competitiveness
Why Radiology or Dermatology closes at fundamentally different ranks than Pre-Clinical subjects.
Institute Competitiveness
Why the same specialty behaves differently depending on the hospital's clinical load and reputation.
