STATE PUBLIC SERVICE COMMISSIONS / REALM 03
India has one Union.
It has many administrative republics.
The First Principle
There is no single "State PSC Exam."
There are 29 State Public Service Commissions. Each operates within its own constitutional, administrative, and recruitment ecosystem. Each writes its own administrative story.
What is a State PSC?
THE INTRODUCTORY KNOWLEDGE CHAMBER
What does PSC stand for? What does a State PSC do? Is State PSC the same as UPSC? How many State PSCs are there? Does every state have the same exam? What is PCS? Are State PSC exams only for graduates?

UPSC vs State PSC
THE SEPARATION OF POWER
UPSC (The Union) State PSC (The State)
Union-level recruitment
For All-India and Central Services.
State-level recruitment
For State services and state-controlled administration.
National competition
Candidates from across India compete on a single standard.
Primarily state-specific ecosystem
Heavily influenced by local domicile, language, and state syllabus.
Union + Intergovernmental roles
Serving the central government, with cadres allocated to states.
State administration
Serving exclusively within the state government's machinery.
Can a State PSC officer work only inside a district?
Can a State PSC officer be posted anywhere in the state?
How does State PSC differ from IAS?
Can State PSC officers be promoted to IAS?
Who belongs to the State?
The Domicile Chamber
DO NOT COPY ONE STATE'S ELIGIBILITY RULE TO ANOTHER.
Some states allow candidates from other states to compete in the unreserved general category. Other states enforce strict domicile requirements, local-candidate definitions, or regional schooling mandates.
